Our 2024/2025 Athletics Program has now commenced!

Purpose

The Sunraysia Academy of Sport 2024/25 Athletics program, proudly supported by Mildura & District Little Athletics Centre will provide junior athletes with a high-performance sporting program within our region by enhancing pathways for young athletes to achieve their elite sporting and personal ambitions. The program aims to bring together the most talented junior athletics athletes in the Sunraysia region.

Objectives

Identification of regional athletes with long term characteristics for high performance Athletes
To implement a program which takes a holistic approach to an athlete’s development
Provide athletes the tools necessary for them to develop as high-level athletes i.e. Strength and Conditioning and Athlete Education sessions
To provide high level track and field training, specific to each individuals chosen discipline
To increase the number of regionally based junior track and field athletes
To involve regionally based athletics coaches and support their professional development within the program for the development of current and future athletes
To involve training from high level coaches to develop local athletes
Use an athlete-centred approach which will focus on the processes that need implementing to achieve both short- and long-term goals for athletes
To provide coach development opportunities to talented young coaches in the region

Athletics Personnel

The 2024/2025 Athletics Program will feature 2 high performance coaches to deliver quality clinics to the participating athletes.

Dennis Lorenzin will deliver a clinic in November, focusing on all events in a high-performance setting. Dennis is a level 4 (Elite Performance) coach. Lorenzin has coached several athletes who have gone on to compete at national and international levels, including the Olympics and World Championships.

The Program will then feature an online education session and a high-performance clinic with Martin Shephard. Martin is a level 3 Performance Coach and specializes in jumps training. Martin has been coaching for twenty plus years and has coached from little athletics up to national champions, with over a dozen national podium finishes in the past six years. Martin will deliver a high-performance clinic in March 2025, while also delivering an online information/education session throughout the program.

Targeted Squad

Males and Females born between 2006 and 2014 inclusive.

The 2024-2025 criteria for selection are as follows:

A member of the Mildura & District Little Athletics Centre.
Have a positive attitude and a willingness to learn and improve
Athletes must have represented their school at a district level
At or aiming to compete at state (or higher) level

Selection Process

Athletes are required to complete the online Athlete Application Form by Monday 7^th October 2024. Outlining their highest event achievements and highest levels represented (Eg. Regional, State, National etc.

General Adherence Criteria

In order for athletes to maintain their position within the Sunraysia Academy of Sport Athletic Program they will be required to meet certain standards relating to:

Attendance at Academy camps & Participation in Academy Services
Performance in competitions.
Behaviour and attitude reflecting a commitment to high performance.
To wear the Academy Uniform at all Academy activities and when presenting to media being interviewed and/or photograph

Structure of Program
The program will commence on Saturday 12^th October 2024 and conclude on Sunday 30^th March 2025.

Athletes in the program will receive:

Fitness testing at the commencement of the program
1 x Specialized Clinic with Dennis Lorenzin (all events focused)
1 x Specialized Clinic with Martin Shephard (jumps focused)
1 x online education session with Martin Shephard
18 x Weekly coached strength & conditioning sessions (Saturdays, times TBC).
Athlete Education sessions (ie goal setting, sports nutrition, sport psychology, injury prevention etc.)

SAS Athlete Membership to Mildura Waves, courtesy of Aligned Leisure during the period the program runs (age restrictions apply)
- 13 and Under: Aquatic membership only (access to pool, no gym)
- 14 and Over: Gym & Aquatic membership (access to pool and gym)
Callahan Physiotherapy Discount – As a Medical Network Partner, our athletes also receive a discount on their first consultation as well as a free spikey ball or pocket physio.

Uniform and merchandise

SAS Uniform

The uniform cost is not included in the athlete levy, however upon acceptance into the program, online order instructions will be sent through with details of compulsory and optional items to be ordered.

It is an expectation that athletes wear their uniforms for media shoots/interviews,
training sessions and competitions where appropriate.

The athete levy for the 2024/25 Athletics Program is:
